> Gallium Tough Solar is a new solar module that represents a further advancement in the Casio Tough Solar charging system. It adapts Sharp’s gallium-based solar charging technology, which features a power-generating layer made with a gallium compound. Originally incorporated in the small SLIM lunar probe developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), which made Japan’s first moon landing in 2024, this advanced solar cell technology has now been effectively applied to wristwatches. The system not only delivers aerospace-level reliability, but boasts much better power generation efficiency than conventional solar cells. This allows it to use just the light shining through small gaps in the date display to reliably power all the functions, including standard time radio wave reception.
